Gianni Bugno won his first WC in Stuttgard 1991 and being the world champion defender he retained his tittle in Benidorm 1992.
Bugno enjoyed a season-long battle with the all-conquering Miguel Indurain in 1991. Beaten by the Spaniard in the Tour de France of that year, Bugno beat his rival in the Worlds and went on to repeat his WC success in the following year, beating Laurent Jalabert to the famous rainbow stripes.
