Giovanni Pinarello was born in Catena di Villorba, Italy in 1922. He was the eighth of 12 brothers. At the age of fifteen, Giovanni began servicing bicycles at the factory of Paglianti. After a successful amateur career he turned professional in 1947, winning some races. After his career, in 1952 he founded Cicli Pinarello S.p.A. in Treviso, Italy.
The Pinarello Super Record Special is widely regarded as one of the finest racing machines ever to leave Giovanni Pinarello’s factory in Treviso, Italy. Introduced in the mid-1970s, the Super Record Special served as Pinarello’s flagship model until the early 1980s, when it was succeeded by the Montello and Treviso.
Pinarello’s rise to international prominence began in 1975, when Fausto Bertoglio rode a Pinarello Super Record Special to victory in the Giro d’Italia. The marque’s success continued when Giovanni Battaglin claimed the Maglia Rosa at the Giro d’Italia, further cementing Pinarello’s reputation as a premier builder of racing bicycles.
Giovanni Battaglin, Alexi Grewal, Pedro Delgado, Miguel Indurain, Bjarne Riis, Jan Ullrich, Erik Zabel all won their biggest races on a Pinarello bike.
This Pinarello Super Record Special 1975 has the Campagnolo Bar End Shifters. Great for attacking more easily on a climb or in a sprint, gearing up & down with both hands on the handlebars.
